This is a super easy, very fun, and delicious seasonal activity for the whole family! It’s a tradition in our family handed down for generations! Snow ice-cream! Mmmmm, so good!
INGREDIENTS:
1 gallon snow
1 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 cups milk (if you have any lactose intolerant peeps like we do, you can absolutely substitute the milk for lactose free milk!)
Optional – Finely grinded sea salt. You can also add a pinch of fine sea salt to bring out the vanilla flavor. We don’t use any, and it absolutely not necessary, but some people prefer salt as well. Regular salt could work as well, but those that do use salt typically prefer sea salt.
Also optional, but super fun, use food coloring to add some color to your yummy seasonal treat!
DIRECTIONS:
After a good snow day, collect about a gallon of snow in a very large bowl (I recommend one with a lid to save any extra ice-cream). Or when it starts to snow, you could always place your large bowl outside to collect the flakes as they fall. Though it may get buried and need to be dug out later, so prepare for that if you choose to go that route!
Once you’ve collected your fresh snow, mix your sugar, milk, and vanilla in a separate bowl. Then, after your milk mixture is fully whipped together, stir it in to the snow bowl slowly (preferably as you whip it). Add just enough milk mix for tour desired consistency. If you’ve used the recommended amounts of everything, all of the milk mix should go into the snow, creating a perfect milkshake like consistency!
Quick mixing tip – I like to pop our milk, sugar, vanilla mixture into the freezer for about 10-15 minutes (long enough to get incredibly cold, without actually freezing it) prior to gathering the snow and mixing everything together. Making sure the mixture is sufficiently chilled does help keep the consistency of the ice-cream more firm (less milk shake like) than if you don’t chill it, which we prefer. But it’s not necessary, of course.
If you’ve decided to color your ice-cream, mix in your color once you’re satisfied with the consistency, or you could do what we do and let each child choose a color and mix it in to each serving individually, before adding any toppings they may want!
All that’s left to do now is enjoy the delicious treat! Serve immediately, or if you prefer a more firm consistency, freeze your ice-cream for 30-60 minutes! Whenever you’re ready to eat your ice-cream, go crazy and color it with food coloring if you hadn’t already! For a little extra goodness, add your favorite sprinkles and/or other toppings! Yummy!
Seal and save any left overs for future desserts and/or tasty snacks!
I hope you enjoy making this simple delicious seasonal treat with your kiddos! It’s sure to be a fond memory for the whole family that may become one of your new favorite holiday/seasonal traditions for generations to come! Eat up and enjoy! Happy holidays y’all!

Amazon Shopping List
I want to make it very clear that I do NOT get paid to promote anything on the lists in anyway, nor does anyone I know. The products are not sent to me/friends/family to review. I have found and used/researched these on my own. I spend a significant amount of time each month on amazon searching around to find the best products to aid in our homeschool journey at the best deals! Now you can benefit from my hours of work as well! I have put together lists of teaching aids, books, kits and more that may prove useful and helpful on your homeschool journey as well! I have also put together a list of family matching clothing, shoes and accessories. Our youngest is very much into matching mom, so every spring we choose a few matching outfits and things that are always a big hit with our friends and family. Everything we have bought or simply just considered is on the list. Please note the sizes and colors displayed may not be the matching item. Also some things may say out of stock, however it may only be for the size and/or color that was selected when the item was added to the list.
